One of the best days ever

It's true, we had one of the best days ever on Saturday. A combination of blue sky, warm sun and happy kids.

Isi has just learnt to ride a bike so he's very excited and wants to ride everywhere. Gus is a whizz on his balance bike so it was so great to see them both zipping along. I hadn't been to Victoria Park before, even though we are only a hop, skip and jump from Hackney. It's beautiful! Bridges, Pagodas, great playground, brilliant cafe, we spent hours there, had ice-cream and took a boat out.

Then after lunch we walked up the canal, picking out our favourite narrow boats. Their owners were sitting on their rooves drinking beer, playing music, the atmosphere was magical. Then we happened upon the London Book Barge,  a great excuse for the boys to go in and see what a narrow boat was like inside. I grew up in Little Venice with the Regent's Canal at the end of my road so I'm very familiar with this life, but it was all new to the boys. They loved it, couldn't believe people lived in boats!

We wandered up to Broadway Market, which was bustling, people pouring out of the pubs, soaking up the sun. We had fish & chips canalside and played in the park until dusk.
These first days of Spring are so exciting. It's like we've all been trapped in a basement for months and someone's just unlocked the door!

While we were in New York we made a plan to shake it up a bit - do different things at weekends, so this was such a great start. We felt like tourists again. Good to keep that holiday feeling going for as long as possible!

Hope you all had a great weekend. x

  1. sounds perfect, haven't been there either sounds like it is worth a trip.

  2. What a great day! Makes me wanna come up to London for a play!!! x

  3. Looks perfect! Just like you're on hols xxx

  4. Being a holidaymaker in your own back yard is the best of both worlds, I always think.

  5. Oh wow, this looks so perfect! The book barge in particular sounds wonderful, as does fish and chips by the canal and being outside until dusk. London really comes into its own when the sun's out doesn't it? xo
